A manager must be able to motivate his staff to work at their highest level of ability and efficiency in order to produce the best results for the organisation's benefit.
To consistently motivate his team to higher levels of productivity, the manager has to have the ability to handle several sensitive issues. Firstly he must be able to balance the relative closeness or distance of his relationship with his team members. Secondly he must be able to deliver reprimands in a manner that has beneficial rather than negative effects not only on the relationship with the staff member but on their ensuing productivity.
